2010-2011 School Year Calendar: The Board of Trustees approved the 2010/11 school year calendar at its January 26 meeting. The calendar has now been posted on our District website. The calendar meets provincial and District regulations with respect to the number of days in the year and the hours of instruction for students. Because Labour Day is very late into the month of September, next year’s calendar will very much mirror the current year’s calendar. It will also be similar to the calendars of neighbouring school districts. The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 30. A fall break has been scheduled for November 11 – 14. The cycle of the calendar means that the Christmas break will be early; the final day of classes will be Friday, December 17. Because January 1 falls on a weekend, Monday, January 3 will be a government holiday therefore school will resume on Tuesday, January 4. A Family Day Break has been scheduled for Tuesday / Wednesday February 22 & 23. A traditional Easter Break has been scheduled. Good Friday is late in the month of April (April 22) therefore school will resume on Monday, May 2.The final day for students will be June 28.

The District Administrators Committee will now be working on developing the District 12 month calendar, scheduling professional learning days, parent/teacher interview days and the other events that take place in our District. All schools will be publishing their calendars later this spring.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

SCHOOL COUNCIL: All parents or guardians of students attending WCHS are automatically members of the School Council and those who attend meetings and give opinions represent all of us. We function as an advisory group, working with administration to make the school experience the best it can be for our children. The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (with occasional exceptions) at 7:00 pm in the school library. Remaining meeting dates for the 2009-10 school year are: February 24, March 17, April 21, May 19 and June 16. Whether or not you decide to come to meetings, should you wish to receive the Minutes by e-mail or if you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me at or 403 381 8282.
